‘Carrot rust fly’ is a major carrot pest around home gardens in NZ. The chemical ‘diazinon’ is readily available and will control the problem (and control it well). Alternatively Resistafly F1 Hybrid has a high level of rust fly resistance.
A British breeding breakthrough! At this stage there is no variety that can categorically claim 100% resistance. ‘Carrot rust fly’ simply does not like the Carrot Resistafly F1 Hybrid. However, if there is nothing else the fly will try it and cause minor damage. By sowing a small percentage of ‘sacrificial carrots’ the flies leave Carrot Resistafly F1 Hybrid alone. We have already mixed this small % in. We have used Carrot Baby (round roots) so you can identify them easily. Resistafly F1 Hybrid is a Manchester Table type (parallel sides with blunt ends). Colour is a good deep orange. F1 Hybrid vigour shows through in strong germination and top quality roots.
