Yellow carrots contain high levels of the carotenoid lutein, this is excellent for preventing macular degeneration of the retina. A study (quite a few years ago, but no less significant) showed that getting lutein from yellow carrots versus taking a supplement was more successful as the supplements had the effect of reducing the beta-carotene concentrations. This just confirms what we already know, you can't beat the value of eating homegrown, fresh produce, good on you for making the effort.
