Pepino Dulce

Solanum muricatum

Pepino's are ideal in a container on the deck where it will flower and fruit heavily. Deemed to be parthenocarpic (does not require pollination to produce fruit) however, a much heavier crop results from self or cross pollination (i.e. grow several plants and attract the bees).

The plants will not set fruit until the night temperatures are above 18 degrees Celsius. A small bushy plant with a woody base. Grows to about 100cm high and 75cm in diameter. The plants may benefit from staking. Fruit is a unique dual coloured white-cream with violet stripes markings. Flesh is sweet & tasty
